The fiberglass trapped odors and it was also fragile and prone to break. George Harding eventually patented a plastic version of the porta potty. It was similar to current day porta potties.

By the 1980s the first porta potty trailers appeared. Porta potties continued to improve and today you can get air-conditioned porta potties with running water and hand basins. Many are powered by solar and have hot water.
